Metal Gear Solid V has taken my time

Since the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, I’ve spent a lot of time with it. I think I’m closer to 50 hours or so now. And I’m still not at the end, all the side-ops in the game has really taken my time. It’s easy to get lost there and just roam around and collect and Fulton stuff.

So that must means I really dig the game, right? Well not necessarily. I’m not sure what I think of the game right now to be honest. I’ve had some enjoyable moments in the game, but I wish there was more story, more cutscenes. You know like a regular Metal Gear Solid game and I would have loved to have some iconic bosses. Seemed like those died together with Metal Gear Solid 3, a damn shame!
Sure the game is good, just not as good as I hoped so far. I’m not a fan of the mission style, it works but I don’t like it for the story mode, I guess that’s why I never got into Peace Walker either. I’ll see what I think about the game, when I have finished it. That’s when my final verdict for a game is formed. If the ending is totally crap it can ruin a game for me, then it becomes more along the lines of “What am I fighting for!?“. The ending is my reward, it has to feel fulfilling, sure if the game has been fun and is good I won’t dis it just because of the ending.
I’ll write more about MGSV later, both what I liked and what I hated and I’ll try to make it spoiler free.

In other news it has been a slow month, but that’s okay. Looking forward to next month with three games I’m very excited for. Transformers: Devastation, Dragon Quest Heroes and of course Tales of Zestiria. Fun times are ahead for me at least.
And today I picked up my 20th anniversary controller, I just love this thing to death. So much nostalgia for me, just because of the PlayStation grey color. Now Nintendo should release a Pro controller that is NES or SNES inspired. I would have to get them, because of reasons.

I must clairyfy that the touchpad does not look like this when you buy it! I bought an sticker to go over the touchpad to protect it from fingerprints and I wanted to have the 20th anniversary logos on there. Just so you know and I put caps on my sticks to protect them too, I don’t want to risk the sticks falling apart.

E3 2015: The show so far

Now that both Microsoft and Sony’s show is over, lets see what where some of the highlights for me. I liked Microsoft’s event this year, first time ever I think. They where focused and it felt like they finally knew what they where doing, a bunch of great announcements. The first gameplay of Rise of The Tomb Raider was awesome.
The Rare collection which includes 30 titles from Rare, that’s a lot of quality games you get there. They announced that Xbox One would become backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games, which probably was my biggest surprise and something I think is great. The Minecraft / Hololens demo was pretty fucking awesome I must say.

Sony re-revealed The Last Guardian, guess it wasn’t canceled. I for one don’t care for the game at all, but I know a lot of other folks do, so I’m happy for them. Creator of Shenmue, Yu Suzuki revealed a Kickstarter for Shenmue 3, never thought I’d see the day. But then they went and revealed something I never thought I would see ever and that was the remake of Final Fantasy VII. Yes, they are finally remaking that game. I’m not a FFVII fan, I liked the game sure, but it’s not my favorite and I liked Crisis Core more. But I still got very excited over this news. They showed a lot of stuff that doesn’t interest me as much, but we got to see the first gameplay of Uncharted 4 and it looked good.

And now for two things that was not show in any of the press events, PlatinumGames is making Transformers: Devastation and it looks awesome! Really looking forward to that.

And I just check my Twitter just a short while ago, to see them having announced that they are releasing the 20th anniversary DualShock 4 controller separately! This might not a very big deal, but damn I’m in love with that color and the colored Home button. It really gets the nostalgia in me flowing, I need this controller. I’m going to get this controller when it is released in September. I’ve also wanted a second controller for a while, so this will be my new main controller and the other will be Player 2 controller.

Some really great stuff and so far one of the better E3 in a while. And let’s not forget we still have Nintendo’s and Square Enix event to see later today. But right now I need some sleep.

Last week was busy…

I’m so glad last week is behind us, man that was one though and busy week. I worked over some days and I had people to meet after work, so it was full of stuff. Sure some of it was fun, but damn… I hardly got any rest or gaming done and then I worked on the weekend too. Well not Sunday and today I am free! So that’s nice!
Hopefully this week will be a bit better, firstly I only work four days and I will not do any overtime this week. So yeah, I am thinking this will be a pretty good week. After work on Friday I’ll make my way to Elden and we’ll watch the second half of The Walking Dead season 4. Looking forward to see what happens.

And soon its time for easter, not that I care about it that much. But we’ll get a couple of days of from work, so I can do whatever I please! Looking forward to some time of to do other stuff I love. No, I haven’t gotten tried of my work, I just want some more free time that’s all. And very long after easter it time for vacation time! We’ll see what I’ll be doing, if I can get away from home or I’ll just stay home. All depends on if I can be out with other people or if I’ll start feeling unwell and nervous, I really don’t like to be out where there are lots of people right now. I don’t know why, I just can’t handle them. I had hoped my phobia of people would get a bit better, but this year it seems to have reverted back a bit to what it was like before. Like I don’t go out if I really don’t need to, I try to avoid shops and stuff where lots of people gather. Its hard to find a balance. =/

As I said, last week was full of stuff so I had hardly anytime trying inFAMOUS: Second Son for the PlayStation 4. But that will change this week, I’ve already played a few hours and I like it! Not that I had much doubt that I would to be honest. Though one thing pissed me of, not about the game but my controller. My DualShock 4‘s touchpad stopped working when I was about to start I:SS, fucking great! So I’ve returned it and I am waiting for it to get fixed and sent back to me. Hopefully this doesn’t take a month. But then again you never know. Thankfully ZX-Omega was kind to lend me his DS4 so I can play. Thank you! So now I can play though all of inFAMOUS and then go to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

This are the games I got in March. Loving inFAMOUS so far, looking forward to try MGSV: GZ even if its short. And Watch_Dogs pack is just a preorder pack! Some costumes and multiplayer stuff, but it came in case when I made the preorder. So that’s nice! Hopefully the game is good too!

The games I got in March

I managed to finish of some anime shows like Kill La Kill, which was really good. Not as good as Gurren Lagann but still very enjoyable. So I can recommend that if you haven’t seen it. Hmm, what more did I watch? I finished watching No-rin, Mahou Sensou and a few others. Just check out my MAL and see what I’ve gone through if you are interested. =)
Right now I’m watching Beet The Vandal Buster, so far a pretty decent fantasy anime. More in the sort that I am looking for. Well, gotta back back to inFAMOUS and other stuff. Bye all!

The DualShock 4 controller

Today I finally had a chance to try the new DualShock 4. Sure it was not plugged in, but I got to hold it and get a feel for it. And let me say, I am very pleased with my experience.

D-PAD and BUTTONS
While it’s hard to say how good it will actually be, when I couldn’t try the controller with a game. The D-pad felt really good, its a bit mushy and it felt really comfortable to use. But the PS3 and PSVita D-pad is a bit harder and this felt softer, if that explanation felt better. I’m really looking forward to try in out in action.
The face-buttons feel good as always, though they don’t have the sorta squishiness that the DualShock 3 buttons have. While it’s hard to give more of an impression without trying I think they’ll be great.

TRIGGERS
One of the biggest improvements on the controller, they feel really tight and so far from my impression they feel heavenly to touch. They have the right amount of springiness, while the DS3 L2 and R2 can feel sloppy at times the new triggers feels great. Your fingers will rest more naturally on the triggers since they are concaved this time and for some people, you won’t risk having your fingers slide of. Never happened to me though on the DualShock 3, but I’ve heard stories about folk…

STICKS
They are shorter in length and your thumb will rest better on the controller, while my only complaint on the DS3 has been that the sticks can feel somewhat loose at times that’s a “problem” that has been fixed with the DS4. The sticks feel sturdier and all-around just feel really great to use, more like the sticks on an Xbox 360 controller. And they now have concaved tops on the sticks, so your thumbs will rest on them. I think this will be a huge improvement and will make the control for games even more accurate.

NEW STUFF
The DualShock 4 doesn’t just offer improvements over its predecessor it has a few nifty things of its own. Like the touchpad in the middle of the controller, I’m looking forward to see what developers can and will do with that. This time we’ll also say goodbye to the START and SELECT button and introduce the OPTIONS and SHARE button. Options-button will have the same function as the start button while Share will be use to start video-recording on the PS4 or take a screenshot.
But the feature I’m looking forward to most and something that I think I’ll be using a lot is the, 3.5 headphone jacket on the controller. You can plug-in a handsfree headset and chat with people, but you can also choose to the games audio coming out into the controller via the headphones. A feature I wish I had a few years ago, when I was living at home and had to play with the volume very low at nights.

Well these are my impressions on the controller so far, its hard to say if it will be truly great right now. But then again I doubt it. I like the DualShock controller and the DualShock 4 has improved upon everything, I’ll be very shocked if it turned out to be crap. The initial test have been great for me and I can’t wait to try it out for real in just about two days now.
The time is almost upon us and damn it’s going too feel so incredible good when the wait is over! Just a three days and a few hours left until the midnight launch. Gotta get some provisions for the day of days!
