Is 2020 the year of JRPG’s?
While we have gotten our fair share of JRPG’s this year, it seems like 2020 is going to start with a big bang when it comes to Japanese roll playing games. And these are just games that are announced now, who knows what more will be announced and revealed in the upcoming months. It feels like it’s a really good time to be a JRPG fan.
And yes I must say that almost all games listed here is a port/remake or the like.
Doesn’t make it any less worthwhile, for a lot of people have not been able to play the original versions. So I still think they are worth checking in, some of them have had some tremendous work done on them, like Xenoblade Chronicles.
And I’m going to miss some titles, if you feel like something is missing give me a shout! Then I’ll consider them for a second post or a video.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore
RELEASE: 2020-01-17 —- CONSOLES: Nintendo Switch
Like many other games for the Wii U, I missed this one completely. But then again it wasn’t entirely on my radar at the time either. As of writing this is the first JRPG that will be released in 2020. It will apparently feature some new story content not found in the original Wii U version and feature new characters.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
RELEASE: 2020-03-03 —- CONSOLES: PlayStation 4
This new trailer actually dropped today! And it’s so gorgeous, I want to remind everyone I’m not a FF7 fan, but man I’m very hyped for the remake! Everything I’ve seen so far looks so good, This game looks fun and I’m really liking the action battle system and not to mention that both Aerith and Tifa look so good! Can’t wait to see the rest and hopefully we won’t have to wait all that long for the second part of the game to be released… And frog Cloud is precious! He must the protected!
They’ve also confirmed there will be a classic mode in the game, that will do away with all the action and you’ll be playing like the old classic turn based mode. Where you don’t have to feel the stress of the action, it’s great there is something for everyone.
Trails of Mana
RELEASE: 2020-04-24 —- CONSOLES: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch
I never played the original and while I do have Collection of Mana, I feel the remake is more up my alley than the original. Fully 3D environment and more action based combat is making this look great. Glad they learned for the horrid Secret of Mana remake. Riesz will absolutely be in my team and probably Angela too.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
RELEASE: 2020-??-?? —- CONSOLES: Nintendo Switch
The biggest and best surprise from the latest Nintendo Direct, I had almost given up hope they we would see the first Xenoblade on Switch. I’ve said it a couple of times but this game really deserved a port that would do it justice and not be stuck on the 3DS.
So I’m glad that’s happening now and from what we can see in the trailer above it looks really fantastic. New character models, improved textures for everything and rumors of them adding cut content. Yeah, you best believe I’m hyped for this!
I hope they do a nice collectors edition for this and I want the release date now!
Tales of Arise
RELEASE: 2020-??-?? —- CONSOLES: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam
The newest trailer from Tokyo Game Show, it doesn’t show much new stuff and it’s very short. But we get a tease of our third party member and what I expect to be the games mascot character. I was really hoping for more, at least get a good look and a name for this third character, oh well. I’m super hyped for this Tales of game anyways, it looks so freaking good! So looking forward to what a Tales of game with a bigger budget can deliver, so far it’s nailing it with it’s visuals.
Persona 5: Royal
RELEASE: 2020-??-?? —- CONSOLES: PlayStation 4
I haven’t really clicked with the Persona series and I tried the regular version of 5, but I only played a few hours of it. Thought I’d give it a second chance with this new edition.
For me this one is on the bottom of those games I’m looking forward to, I’m hoping it will click more with me this time, but we’ll see.
Genshin Impact
RELEASE: 2020-??-?? —- CONSOLES: PlayStation 4
A gorgeous open-world game that has some clear inspirations from our lovely
Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild. Holy hell I’m looking forward to play this game, I’m in love with the cell-shading style. If it’s only half as good as BOTW then I’m going to have a blast with this game, everything I’ve seen so far just makes me want the game even more. I like that they have a few different playable characters, hopefully that will add some variation to the game. Already liking the bow users.

“Done” with Dragon Quest Builders 2
Firstly no way in hell I’m done with Dragon Quest Builders 2, but after 100hours of playing the game I’m taking a break from it. I’ve beaten the story mode and I felt like I needed to give some of the other new games I have some love.
But man, the building in DQB2 just swallowed me and all my time, I’ve had such a blast just building. Many, many of those 100hours are just me building on my island instead of just playing the game and clearing the story and then start building for real.
I’ve had a real hard time putting down the controller, so far it’s a GOTY contender for me. There have been few games that has brought me so much joy in recent times.
Many games I love, but very few I’ve spent over a 100hours on.
So yeah. That’s where I’ve been spending all my time with, when I haven’t been working these last couple of weeks.
I can’t remember if I’ve said anything about it before, but I’m completely done with GameStop now. Not going to continue to support it, short reason. The best store manager went on to do other stuff and my local shop turned into all other GameStops. What made it unique and me willing to spend money there is gone and surprise, now that shop if gone. But we have another one not far away, but doesn’t matter I’m still done, not paying anymore overprices for games. Well here are the last games I had preordered from them.
Man I love Dragon Quest Builders 2!
Currently giving Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 a go. Was thinking about trying
Fire Emblem, but after coming from 100hours of gameplay from DQB2, I needed something else. Just needed something to bash or something.
But I’m going to return to Trails of Cold Steel 2 in about a week, that’s when my vacation finally starts and I’ve said I’m going to put my all into it then. So yeah, gotta keep bashing when I can. And give my PlayStation 4 some more love.
Currently I’m working on the next episode of me and my friends show “Äntligen Nördag” Which translates into something like Finally Nerday.
Missing some scenes for the video to be finished, but more info on that when I’m actually done with the episode.

Spel jag ska ha: Del 1
Nu när E3 är över, så är det dags att uppdatera listan på spel som jag ska köpa tänkte jag. Får nog dela upp listan lite, annars blir det så många filmer att posta i en.
Har försökt posta dem i den datum ordning de släpps och inte just i den ordningen jag skulle vilja ha dem. Så vi börjar med det som är kvar för året innan vi går in på 2020.
Collection of Mana
RELEASE: 11/06 2019 – KÖPER TILL: Nintendo Switch
Collection of Mana finns ute att köpa redan nu på Nintendos eshop, men Square Enix har även utannonserat en fysisk utgåva. Denna kommer släppas den 27e augusti så det är den jag satsar på. Mana-serien är älskad av många, själv har jag ingen koppling till den. När serien började på SNES, så hade jag ingen chans att komma in i den.
Sedan tappade jag dessvärre intresset, men nu när denna samling kommer tänker jag ge serien en ärlig chans. Vi får ju även det väldigt omtyckta Seiken Densetsu 3 med officiell översättning för första gången! Den officiella engelska titeln är nu

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Jag lovade att sista inlägget jag gjorde om spel jag ville ha, var sista gången jag skulle tjata om Bloodstained. I lied! :D
Ni vet redan att jag vill ha detta, jag har sagt varför och tjatat om det om och om igen.
Jag ville bara ha med det på listan, nu ska jag inte tjata mer! Spelet är ju snart här!
Super Mario Maker 2
RELEASE: 28/06 2019 – KÖPER TILL: Nintendo Switch
Jag spelade i princip aldrig originalet, fick testa några banor en vän gjort, men ägde själv aldrig spelet. Men nu när det faktiskt kommer en Mario Maker 2, så får jag se till att åtgärda det problemet. Trailern visar en del nya saker, så som att du kan göra lutningar i spelet, förmodligen det mest efterlängtade delen att kunna göra om man ska tro på vad folk säger. Kan bli ett roligt spel och jag hoppas man får lite energi att göra en egen bana, men om jag inte skulle orka det så kan jag alltid spela det nya story-läget som finns i spelet och så kan jag ju alltid spela andras banor.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
RELEASE: 12/07 2019 – KÖPER TILL: Nintendo Switch
Ännu ett spel jag tjatat om sedan tidigare, så jag tänker inte säga mycket mer nu.
Utan jag låter videon tala för sig själv om varför jag vill ha det. Det släpps till PlayStation 4 också, om ni inte visste det.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
RELEASE: 19/06 2019 – KÖPER TILL: Nintendo Switch
Vi får ju vänta tills nästa år för att få Square Enix Avengers-spel, så för att stilla superhjälte behovet så finns ju Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Har inte spelat något i serien tidigare, så är väl inte super hajpad på spelet. Men jag hoppas det kommer överraska och visa sig vara ett riktigt grymt spel.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
RELEASE: 26/07 2019 – KÖPER TILL: Nintendo Switch
Jag är inte överförtjust i Strategi RPG, men jag ska ge Fire Emblem en riktig chans med Switch-versionen. Gillar jag inte det så kan jag alltid sälja det vidare.
Men tycker det ser lite intressant ut av det jag sett, tillräckligt för att jag ska våga testa det åtminstone. Enda tidiga Fire Emblem-spel jag spelat är Fire Emblem Warriors.
Astral Chain
RELEASE: 30/08 2019 – KÖPER TILL: Nintendo Switch
När det först utannonserades så trodde jag och många andra att det skulle vara ett nytt Xenoblade Chronicles-spel. Men det visade sig istället vara PlatinumGames nya action-spel som skulle bli Nintendo Switch-exklusivt.
Futuristiska poliser som samarbetar med “monster” partners för att stoppa andra monster, låter kanske inte superhett det. Men jag tror detta kommer bli riktigt bra, PlatinumGames brukar alltid leverera. Så tror absolut detta kommer bli riktigt nice!
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
RELEASE: 20/09 2019 – KÖPER TILL: Nintendo Switch
Jag är ett stort fan av The Legend of Zelda-serien och jag har alltid uppskattat
2D-spelen väldigt mycket. Nu gillar jag ju båda ändå, men en av dessa favoriter är Link’s Awakening. Nu kommer en remake av det till Nintendo Switch och naturligtvis måste jag ha det! Det ser så gulligt och charmigt ut, sött som fan.
Remaken ser dock ut att vara original spelet med ny grafik, vilket inte gör mig något när originalet är så bra. Det blir ju lättare för nya spelare att komma in i spelet genom att köpa det på Switch, hur som helst längtar jag väldigt mycket efter detta.
Trails of Cold Steel III

Square Enix E3 2019
Square Enix presskonferens är över och jag har lyckats få lite sömn efter det, det vill också säga att mina tankar om det som presenterades har hunnit sjunka in.
Kanske inte riktigt precis allt, men det mesta. Än så länge tycker jag Square Enix hade den absolut bästa presentationen i år och mest grejer som intresserade mig.
Oj, vad skumt va? Ett företag som specialiserar sig i Japanska rollspel, tilltalar en
JRPG-spelare? Aldrig hänt förr! Haha. Nåja.
Här är en längre trailer av den jag postade igår och det ser fantastiskt ut. Kom ihåg att jag aldrig varit ett fan av FF7-originalet så att jag är så här orimligt(?) hajpad på remaken är sjukt förvånande. Men så är det så många saker i remaken som tilltalar mig. I denna längre trailer så avslöjar de äntligen Tifa också! Hon ser fantastisk ut tycker jag, är glad att de inte ändrade hennes design så mycket, men fixade ändå till lite. Än så länge är jag själv väldigt nöjd med de få design omval de gjort på karaktärerna, är nog absolut ingen jag tycker ser värre ut.
Vi får ju inte glömma att Square Enix också gav oss en riktig gameplay demo under sin show. Något som jag upplevde ändrade många av de negativa kommentarerna om spelet. Tycker det ser kul ut och jag älskar det mer action-baserade stridssystemet.
Nu ska man “bara” vänta till den 3e mars 2020 innan vi får spela denna första del i remaken. Det vill säga om de inte blir fler förseningar, vi hoppas att det inte sker…
Första delen av spelet kommer tydligen utspela sig helt i Midgar om jag fattade det hela rätt och spelet kommer på två st blu-ray skivor.
Square Enix gav oss också något annat som vi velat ha ett bra tag nu! Nämligen en
Final Fantasy VIII-remaster. Med uppdaterade karaktärsmodeller, det ser riktigt bra ut faktiskt! Nu ser man ju vilka karaktärer som är vilka! Kommer absolut skaffa detta, älskar ju Final Fantasy VIII. Synd de inte släpper detta fysiskt.
Square Enix avslöjade även två spel i SAGA-serien som kommer till väst. Vet inte så mycket om serien själv, så man får väl se om man kollar närmare på den nu när dessa två släpps. Gillar musiken som fasen dock!
Sist ut är Avengers-spelet som utvecklas av Crystal Dynamics. Ni vet, teamet som ligger bakom Tomb Raider spelen. Det ser riktigt nice ut, men inte lika hajpad på det som jag trodde att jag skulle vara. Men det kan ju alltid ändras, ju närmare release man kommer och ju mer grejer man får se från spelet.
Spelet släpps inte förrän 15 mars 2020, så det är ju gott om tid att hinna bli riktigt sugen på spelet. Kommer naturligtvis köpa det ändå, för det ser riktigt bra ut.

Final Fantasy VII remaken har ett datum!
Square Enix höll tydligen en konsert i Los Angels igår, där visade de en kort trailer från den kommande Remaken av Final Fantasy VII.
I denna trailern så avslöjade de också när spelet kommer släpps, hoppades ni likt som mig att kanske få spela det i slutet av året kan man nu sluta med det.
Något annat som jag trodde vi skulle få vänta tills i natt för att få veta är release datumet för Final Fantasy VII Remaken.
Men nu vet jag när jag ska lägga in nästa ledighet från jobbet åtminstone! Ser verkligen fram emot att få spela denna remake. Nåja, del 1 av remaken i alla fall.
Så markera datumet i era kalendrar och sätter med mig i väntar hörnet.

Project Prelude Rune has been canceled
My fears have come true. When it was announced that Hideo Baba had left Square Enix I feared the worst for Studio Istolia and their game “Project Prelude Rune“.
And today the death sentence finally came. Square Enix has confirmed via USgamer.
“Following evaluation of various aspects of Project Prelude Rune, development of the title has been canceled,” a Square Enix representative said. “Studio Istolia is no longer in operation and we have been taking appropriate steps to assign studio staff to other projects within the Square Enix Group.”
So I’m really bummed out now, like seriously. Was so looking forward to a Hideo Baba game that wasn’t a Tales of game and a game he might have gotten a bigger budget for. But sadly dreams do end, I’m just a bit surprised at how hard this affected me.
Sure we just got a teaser trailer for the game, but if what we saw was the kind of style the game would have it was full of color and beautifully cellshaded.

New trailer for Final Fantasy VII remake
I’m a few days late with these news, but about three days ago Square Enix released a new trailer from their upcoming Final Fantasy VII remake. It’s no secret that I am not a big Final Fantasy VII fan, but this remake has has really hyped for the game.
Much more than the original game ever hyped me. Check out the trailer for yourselves!
I think it looks really good! I’m I am very eager to try this game, for me personally I have nothing against this being more of an Action RPG than a turn based one.
If it’s just as fluid and fun as it is in Kingdom Hearts III, I know that at least I am going to have a very good time with the battles. I’m really digging Aerith’s design, she looks really, really good. Even Cloud looks better than he did in the 2015 reveal.
Sure I’ll miss his banana hair buy what can you do? I know some people really liked his more sickly design, but it didn’t really resonate with me.

Square Enix is going to share more news with us in June when E3 is, I really hope they’ll show more of the characters. I am a bit eager to see Tifa, mostly due to me thinking she’ll get a bit of a redesign… Since I don’t think her original will work with today’s climate on the internet regarding certain designs.
It does feel a bit weird to be hyped about FF7, I wonder if this is what people felt like when they waited for the original to be released.
My biggest hope is that we’ll get some parts that are playable with Zack in this remake, since there seems to be no plans to make a Crisis Core HD. Doesn’t really seem to fit in with the whole way FF7 is going, but then again… If that erases Genesis from FF7 lore that might not be such a bad thing. So tell me. Are you looking forward to this remake?
