Some impression of the PlayStation 4

The first thing I did when I got the Playstation 4 earlier this morning was to take a few pictures and post on various sites I visit. I just wanted to show of my new sexy thing, after that I unpacked everything. Mmm! That new console smell. Hooked it up and it went smooth as hell, I am impressed at how fast everything went. It downloaded the update and installed it pretty fast, I liked that very much. The interface looks really good and it was so fast, it will take sometime to get used to it. But I think it will be really great. A friend of mine who skipped out completely on the PlayStation 3 was with me when I got my console and he was very impressed with the PS4. He enjoyed the controller much more than the though he would, so that was nice too hear. Even Hentai-Woody likes is!

As I posted a couple of days ago, the DualShock 4 is so damn good. I like the weight of the controller, the sticks are much tighter and gives more precision than those on the DualShock 3. And as I thought I love the feature that you can plug-in earphones/headsets and get all the games audio from the controller, perfect for those game sessions that takes place late at night and where I have to be quite in my apartment. Sure, this could have been fixed by buying a more expensive pair of headsets I presume, but that’s not something that was in my budget or something that I really want.

I only played Knack and Resogun, before I was to tired to even see. No, seriously I was starting to see fog around the eyes. I had to go to sleep! But I really enjoyed the short time I spent with Knack, going to give it a whirl later when I’ve gotten some more rest. I only slept for like 5hours and I feel I need some more. Resogun seemed more fun than I thought, I played long enough to clear a stage but it was pretty fun. Gotta try that more later. I don’t think I’ll be starting Assassin’s Creed 4 until I’ve finished Knack, but then again my friend Elden is coming over later today so who knows? We might take it for a spin, just to feel the ocean breeze.

So far I am really enjoy the PS4, I’m very pleased with what I’ve tried so far. Okay, Knack doesn’t have a very next-gen feel too it, but still. The only complaint so far is the lack of media capabilities, I hope that is something Sony fixes soon. I always used my PS3 to watch movies and TV-shows, I can still watch blu-rays on the PS4 but can’t watch anime shows that I’ve downloaded, since the PS4 can’t read the files. But it’s only the beginning of the PS4 life, I really hope they do add this later. And MP3-support for playing music ingame, it’s the feature I love and used most on the Xbox 360. So I really hope Sony will bring that one to the PS4 in a more complete manner than they did on the PS3.

The DualShock 4 controller

Today I finally had a chance to try the new DualShock 4. Sure it was not plugged in, but I got to hold it and get a feel for it. And let me say, I am very pleased with my experience.

D-PAD and BUTTONS
While it’s hard to say how good it will actually be, when I couldn’t try the controller with a game. The D-pad felt really good, its a bit mushy and it felt really comfortable to use. But the PS3 and PSVita D-pad is a bit harder and this felt softer, if that explanation felt better. I’m really looking forward to try in out in action.
The face-buttons feel good as always, though they don’t have the sorta squishiness that the DualShock 3 buttons have. While it’s hard to give more of an impression without trying I think they’ll be great.

TRIGGERS
One of the biggest improvements on the controller, they feel really tight and so far from my impression they feel heavenly to touch. They have the right amount of springiness, while the DS3 L2 and R2 can feel sloppy at times the new triggers feels great. Your fingers will rest more naturally on the triggers since they are concaved this time and for some people, you won’t risk having your fingers slide of. Never happened to me though on the DualShock 3, but I’ve heard stories about folk…

STICKS
They are shorter in length and your thumb will rest better on the controller, while my only complaint on the DS3 has been that the sticks can feel somewhat loose at times that’s a “problem” that has been fixed with the DS4. The sticks feel sturdier and all-around just feel really great to use, more like the sticks on an Xbox 360 controller. And they now have concaved tops on the sticks, so your thumbs will rest on them. I think this will be a huge improvement and will make the control for games even more accurate.

NEW STUFF
The DualShock 4 doesn’t just offer improvements over its predecessor it has a few nifty things of its own. Like the touchpad in the middle of the controller, I’m looking forward to see what developers can and will do with that. This time we’ll also say goodbye to the START and SELECT button and introduce the OPTIONS and SHARE button. Options-button will have the same function as the start button while Share will be use to start video-recording on the PS4 or take a screenshot.
But the feature I’m looking forward to most and something that I think I’ll be using a lot is the, 3.5 headphone jacket on the controller. You can plug-in a handsfree headset and chat with people, but you can also choose to the games audio coming out into the controller via the headphones. A feature I wish I had a few years ago, when I was living at home and had to play with the volume very low at nights.

Well these are my impressions on the controller so far, its hard to say if it will be truly great right now. But then again I doubt it. I like the DualShock controller and the DualShock 4 has improved upon everything, I’ll be very shocked if it turned out to be crap. The initial test have been great for me and I can’t wait to try it out for real in just about two days now.
The time is almost upon us and damn it’s going too feel so incredible good when the wait is over! Just a three days and a few hours left until the midnight launch. Gotta get some provisions for the day of days!

My thoughts of E3 2010

MICROSOFT
First out of the big three in this years E3 (perhaps they are first every year, I don’t know…). Either way, they where first out and they didn’t really have anything to show that made me excited. They had a whole bunch of games and stuff to show that had to do with Kinect. Ya, know. The camera “controller” that was called Natal before. But as I said there where really nothing that caught my interest a bit of a shame, well at least I’m really liking their redesign of the Xbox 360. It cools very cool and if it works better than the current consoles than that’s great!
I also thought Microsoft’s show was pretty boring, it felt very “stiff” somehow. Maybe its just an impression I got. Oh, yeah. I almost forgot the video that was shown of Metal Gear Solid: Rising was damn cool!

NINTENDO
Well this was a pretty big surprise for me personally. I never thought I would be interested in something Nintendo would show. Don’t get my wrong I love Nintendo and I always will, but I haven’t really been interested in the stuff they’ve done for the past years. Don’t know why, but that’s how it was.
Anyway, I thought Nintendo had the best show. They showed a bunch of new stuff, like the new Legend of Zelda game. But the biggest and best thing on the show (IMO) was the unveiling of Nintendo 3DS, the successor to the DS. They showed a new Kid Icarus game that looks great! And they seem to be announcing things for the console the whole time. You’ll have to find out what for yourselves. I’m greatly interested in the 3DS.

SONY
The show I before hand was hoping to get the best things out of. Well, turns out I was dead wrong. There where almost nothing that interested me here. They talked a hell a lot about MOVE and didn’t really show anything new. Well… Portal 2 and Twisted Metal. But I care for neither, so I guess Heroes on The Move was the game that interested me the most together with The Sly Collection. Heroes on The Move seems to be an action/adventure game that finally puts some of Sony’s “mascots” in the same game, Jak, Ratchet and Sly all together with there sidekicks. And The Sly Collection is the three Sly Cooper games remastered for the PS3 in HD and 3D. I just feel disappointed I was hoping for a bit more.
The part where Kevin Butler enters, where pretty good.

So thanks for reading my thoughts of this years E3 with the big three. What did you think about it? What did you love and hate?

15hours into FFXIII, my impressions

I’m about 15hours into Final Fantasy XIII and I thought I would, write a bit of my impressions of the game so far. For starters I can say, that I’ve had a blast with the game. This is another one of those titles, I have long awaited. So when you finally have it in your hand, it feels a bit strange. Its a wonderful feeling.

Many have complained about the game being to linear and I understand that people think that, I haven’t been bothered by it at all. I was afraid what I would be, but I’m finding it to hard to let go of the controller at times.
My biggest complaint about the game is the total lack of towns. I do miss walking around in town and talking to NPC’s like in past Final Fantasy games. It would help me make the game feel more alive, I understand why its like this, but I think they could have solved it better. And Square Enix “excuse” that its to hard to make towns in HD, is just bullshit. So many others before then have succeeded.

The fighting-system on the other hand is great! Its very fast paced and if you’re not observant, you can die pretty quickly. Won’t go into that much more, I think its better if you experience it by yourselves.
The story can be a bit of the cheesy side, but then again. I’m easily drawn to this kind of story’s for some reason, since I’m really waiting to see what happens next.
Well all in all I’m very pleased with the game so far and I’m looking forward to play more. Just need a break, I’ve been playing the whole day. Well almost.

A day with my HDTV

So I’ve had my new TV, over a day now. And damn! I’m in love, I really honestly do love my TV. It really beats the crap out of my old SDTV. Well if it didn’t I would have been very sad. So some impressions perhaps?

I’ll start with my only complaint about the TV. This is not something that makes the TV worse or anything, but I wish it would start a little faster. If you’ve turned it of and then turn it on again it takes about what? 10-15 seconds. Not to complain about that time, but it does feel like its too long, since my SDTV took about what? 3-4 seconds. This is the only thing I can complain about and that something totally worthless to complain about. Still just wanted to get that off my chest.

The image is very nice and sharp, its like day and night comparing to an SDTV. I’ve tried almost every game I own and they all look excellent! And the fact that I can see stuff in the games I couldn’t with my old TV is just awesome. Mostly its just text, but also details on characters clothes or other minor stuff. Details I really enjoy seeing.
The sound from it is really good also, it sounds more natural. Well compared to the old TV anyway. I haven’t tried hooking it up to my computer yet, I’m gonna try that over the weekend. Just for the fun of it and see how it is. Overall its a great TV and I love it and that it would turn out to be a Full-HD tv it seems, is just awesome. That was a surprise even for me. Especially since nowhere on the box does it say its a Full-HD tv, but after some googling and checking a few things out on wikipedia. That seems to be the case. I’m not complaining. ^^

In other news I have completed everything in Darksiders now. I got the platinum trophy for it too. That’s my seventh platinum. I’m not a trophy hunter, I mostly seek out an gather trophies when I don’t have anything else to play. And now I only had to finish Darksiders on the hardest difficulty, so I replayed it now on my HDTV. Will probably trade it in for Final Fantasy XIII, have to get a new copy of Darksiders later when the economy is better. Well now I’m just awaiting the release of
White Knight Chronicles, which I hope will come next week.

RE5 – Impressions #1

So I’ve played a little bit of RE5. I’m not a big fan of the controlls, but hopefully they will grow on me. The action has been good.
Sheeva is just in the way the entire fucking time. God I wish she wasn’t in the game. Not as an A.I at least. I’m looking forward to try this with kntheking . Now there is where the real fun will be, playing co-op with a buddy. Can’t wait to try that.

I’ve also started to use Twitter. Hope livejournal can add support for it here. So I can have my twitter in the sidebar. I like it, since I can post just some small things on the go. Well don’t know. I just seem to like it. So I hope it get’s supported.
